Suicide Girls burlesque show

We went to the Suicide Girls “burlesque” show thing in Glendale last night. It was at this little bar called The Scene on Colorado near Glendale blvd.

I would like to be able to say the show was good but I honestly don’t know if it was or not. It was really short; it started at 10:00 and ended at 10:55, just about five minutes after we got there. During those five minutes it sounded like there was something going on on stage but I couldn’t actually see much of anything from where we were standing at the bar. Damn, just another reason to hate that class we’re taking. We should have left early.

On the other hand, I think they use the term burlesque pretty loosely. What we did see more closely resembled topless girls throwing whipped cream at each other than traditional burlesque.

We hung out for a while after the performance ended. A band called Gramrabbit played. We watched the first few songs then wandered around a bit. We played spot-the-suicidegirl and ran into an acquaintance who introduced us around the SGLA crowd a little. A disturbing suspicion I had was confirmed: Mullets and trucker-style baseball caps are now considered “cool”. White trash is the new black, apparently.

The bar itself wasn’t bad. It was smallish with a big dirt lot out back that serves as a patio of sorts, except for the complete lack of tables and chairs and the fact that we weren’t allowed to bring drinks out there. The entrance is around back which took us along side the building into this big dirt area. It looked like someone’s backyard party. I kept expecting someone to say “the keg’s over there” or “be quiet! the cops are here!” Stoli and tonics were $6 each and it looked like the CD changer might have some decent stuff on it.

C programming. I’ve actually never done any and I figured it would be a good idea to get some background in it.
