Big Sur

Big Sur coastline

Our two days in Big Sur were the most relaxing time I’ve spent in a long time. We did nothing but wander around, read, drink wine, and look at the ocean. We saw whales and two California condors, swam, and dodged a lot of poison oak. The weather was beautiful and I got sunburned for the first time in I don’t know how long.

We stayed at a place called Treebones Resort, which gets my recommendation. They rent “yurts”, which are tent/cabin-type things, and serve coffee and waffles every morning. All the yurts have gas fireplaces, and you can get an unobstructed view of the ocean (we did, and it was well worth the extra cost). The people there are extremely friendly.
