Home again

We got home from Italy Friday evening and have spent the weekend settling back in. I have never returned from traveling in such a profound state of relaxation before and I’m sad that real life kicks into full gear tomorrow when I go back to work.

Italy was wonderful, as expected. Napoli had some nice scenery but, aside from seeing Pompeii and Vesuvius, it was nothing special. Vegetarian food options were few and the city was just kind of dirty (it almost felt like being back home in San Francisco!). I’m not eating pizza again for at least six months.

Capri and Amalfi were very much tourist resorts but amazingly beautiful in spite of that. I think my exact words to Sarai on Capri were “fucking amazing” as we walked out of our hotel and looked down the hill, over the rooftop of a 14th century monastery, and out onto the water. Gelato nearly every day, lots of wine and espresso, and swimming in the Mediterranean were the highlights of the second two legs of the trip. And the cats. Capri has a lot of cats and we took pictures of nearly all of them (that’s only a slight exaggeration).

Needless to say, photos from the trip are forthcoming, as are wedding pictures.
