Citizen Fish at 924 Gilman

Sunday evening Sarai and I caught Citizen Fish at the historic 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley. I don’t listen to them much these days but they never fail to put on a good show, so I thought it worth checking out. I wasn’t disappointed.

Citizen Fish

The first time I saw Citizen Fish perform was all the way back in 1991, and I’ve seen them half a dozen times in the years since, although it had been quite a while until this show. Citizen Fish, for those who aren’t familiar with them, is made up of a couple former members of the Subhumans, one of my favorite punk bands. I never had a chance to see the Subhumans their first time around but I did see one of their reunion shows somewhere around the mid-90s. They recently did a show at Slim’s in San Francisco, which is all of about a mile and a half from my house, but I didn’t get myself out for it. I really should have.

Object Refuse Reject Abuse

Also appearing with Citizen Fish on Sunday was MDC. I liked MDC alright back when I was into that sort of thing but they were never really one of my favorites. It’s not that I disliked them at all, but I just never really got into them. This was my first time seeing them live and I have to admit they do a good show, even after all these years. They’re not really my style of music these days, and all the “I hate cops” lyrics are a little embarrassing now, but it was definitely an entertaining show.
